Hi all,

Are you able to help me in pointing select my next headphone setup for gaming?

My headset (PC 363D) broke down a week ago and I am now looking for a new setup for sound targeted for competitive FPS gaming online (Escape from tarkov, Battlefiled, etc)

Before my PC 363D broke down I was already thinking of changing them as I have issues pin pointing enemies and hearing steps was not great.

I have been reading and searching around the web have read/watch tons of reviews but never really seen a solid recommendation and I am now quite confused. So that is why I now post this here in the hope to get some friendly help in selecting my next set-up.

My main priority would be:
  1. Pinpointing enemies
  2. Comfort (The PC 363D is conformable and I have not had any issues there.)
  3. "sound quality".
  4. I do not have much need for base but would of course be a bonus.
Budget
I think that I can stretch myself in to about the $400 range.

What I have seen as recommendations so for:
I have seen recommendations for a couple of different headphones however, many of these recommendations are quite old.
  • AKG K702
  • ATH-AD700X
  • DT 880
  • DT 990
  • Game One / PC37X
  • HD598
And adding an amp/dac like Fulla or Hell from Schiit or similar.

I do have a mic already, so no need for that here.

Many thanks,
Patrik

What source exactly were you plugging the headphones into?
A Windows PC?
Make and model of motherboard?
Did the motherboard come with surround sound software?

The PC 363D was plugged in via their included "Sennhieser G4ME1" dongle. I did plug them in to the motherboards sound to try that out but the sound was quite bad. I am using Windows 10.

I bought a Schiit Fulla 3 a few weeks ago, need something to use when at my parents house, while using their computer (I'm not into FPS gaming). No regrets buying it :)
From you headphone list, I think I would go for the HD598 for all around listening (music, movies, RTS gaming, etc).

HyperX Cloud Orbit.
A highly universal headset that is a rebrand of Audeze Mobius, just with some features removed.
I think it ticks your primary boxes. At least I found pinpointing sound sources in 3D to be very easy with them on. You may feel their clamp is a bit tight at first, but they will stretch and can be worn for hours at a time.
