Hail Forum.

I bought a Bravo Audio Ocean on eBay. Long story short, it's clipping/distorting at medium volume, and I think it's the weak power adapter causing the problems.

The adapter is only rated for 1.5 amps, that can't nearly be enough for a tube amplifier to run at full-blast without clipping into the next eternity, can it? Maybe I should get a better one?

Of course, that might not be the problem...Any help at all would be most appreciated!

I recently received mine via Massdrop and found a similar problem.  My DAP is a Fiio X1.  The line out is 1.5 Vrms (10 KΩ/1 kHz) - pretty hefty.  The Bravo Ocean is an extremely high gain amp meant to drive high Ohm drivers.  The 10K Stereo pot is the only impedance to the input signal - so I decided that instead of modding the BAO directly, I would get sneaky and just make a resisting line-in cable.

I took 2 150KΩ vishay resistors and put them in a line cable...

So now I have a cable that adds an extra 150KΩ to the signal.  My distortion is gone and I can increase the volume to ~50% and listen comfortably.  Honestly it sounds so much better.

I am thinking of reworking it already to a control unit inside a small enclosure with a couple of 200KΩ trim pots for balance.  I am not having balance issues with my original fix, but it would be nice to have the option.

Hope that helps.

Hi, I know this post is old: so, 2 150k resistors in parallel, so that's 75 ohms?
