Hi. I'm trying to decide on a closed back studio headphones for my son (and my own mid-life crisis) to use with electronic drums.

The current front runner is the HM5. I've also considered the Sony MDR7056 and AT M40x, but those are about 50% more expensive here is Australia at current black Friday sale prices. DT 770 would be ideal, but I rather not spend that much. Price, comfort, robustness and sound are the priorities in that order. I already have a MrSpeakers as my endgame so I don't really need it to do anything else.

Does anyone have any experience using the HM5 with e-drums? Or suggestions of other suitable headphones in a similar price range. It will be plugged directly into a Roland TD1KV.

Cheers.

Assume your looking for headphones to analyze (monitor) the audio, not for audio enjoyment.

For a studio monitor, Sony MDR-V6, usually lots of used ones sold on eBay.
MDR-7506 is very slightly brighter than the MDR-V6.

Takstar Pro 82 might be something to look into.
