Bought my first set of "real" headphones and HATE THEM

We were being sarcastic about the beats lol.  You will want headphones with significant bass if you listen to a ton of genres.  Just get hd598s and be done.

I wasn't being sarcastic about the beats recommendation LOL. I was just basing it off of the fact that he found the dt990 bass shy. Those cans have more bass than the hd25-1 when well amped.

Could give the Shure SRH750DJ's a try. They are analytical like the SRH840's but have an emphasized low end.

The DT990s have a lot of treble and are very detail oriented. So they will be very revealing. Quite often it's not that the headphones are sibilant, but that the recordings you listen to are. Just didn't hear it before. Also, because of the additional treble, you are probably not running the mids and bass on them as loud as the DT990s. The MA900s definitely do NOT have better sub bass extension.

Did you burn them in at all? Hook the DT990s up to an MP3 player (don't have to use an amp). Run them at moderately loud volumes (not so much that they are clipping) for a few days straight. That may calm the treble down a little and bring out the bass.

Agree'd I've never heard of a Dt 990 not having bass q.q they have gobs of it...

You might have gotten a Dt 880 some how or a defeative dt 990... but burn them in and shove like +18 gain in them to make them DIG DEEP and SING

But yea the treble and mids might pull you away from the bass if this is the first time you've heard well a good headphone. All the detail might be overwhelming

Still I had a SONY XB 700, look up the Freq Charts for them... THEY REALLY DID SOUND like +22 DB of bass, and I enjoy the Dt 990 much more, because of it's mids highs and clarity [not to mention the tight deep bass] SO I hope things work out for you with them. Also did you get the Pro version or the Premuim Verions

The ma900 sounds pretty up front to me. They are slightly warmer sounding, but they're upfront nevertheless. Maybe its ur dac?

Ill just give 3 suggestions, and this isn't sarcasm:
Turn up volume- just try it
Move the ma900's drivers closer to your ears, to the point that they're completely touching your ears. Its crazy how much more upfront they will sound!

Use an eq- eq the treble and bass up.

If you think the ma900 has no bass, ur looking for definitely looking for a closed headphone.
Id say get the ATH WS99.
