I travel by air quite a lot and don't really like things in my ears so am looking for some on ear/over ear Noise cancelling headphones (or even if not active noise cancelling that they shut out most of the ambient noise).
Obviously the prime candidates are Bose but I am baulking at their price. Whilst they may be effective at noise cancelling I have never been a particular fan of their stuff even though I would accept that the QC3 doesn't sound 'bad'.
Are there any reasonably priced alternatives for this use - mainly for listening to rock and some classical?
I believe that JVC, Sony and even Panasonic do NC models but am not sure what their quality is like as I can't find too much by way of reviews.
If NC isn't the way to go then are there any models which just shut out a lot of background noise? I looked at the Audio Technica WS55i but they were a bit on the big size. Ideally I'd like them to be reasonably small if possible but that's not a deal breaker.
Any suggestions very welcome.
