So i was thinking of buying cheap bookshelf speakers like the Dayton B652 or the Monoprice 8250/8251. I want to keep it cheap around $50 is the range i want. So how would I connect these to my ipod/laptop? Is that even possible? I heard that I need an amp or something also. All I want is to be able to connect my speakers to my ipod/laptop so what do i need to do to get that? I also kind of want a subwoofer too. is that possible to add it on and connect everything?

I just want this for listening to music in my room and watching movies in my room. Thanks

Yes, you would need an amp to power those speakers.  If you don't want an amp you'll have to look into powered speakers.  Here's a quick Amazon search for some:

Then all you need is a 3.5mm to RCA (or 3.5 to 3.5) cable and you'll be all set!

I made a sharing thread on T-Amps and generally, a TA2020 is a better buy compared to a DTA-1

Also these Pioneers are going for $49.99 with promo code and free ship on Egg

You need a line out cable for your ipod though to feed an amp
