I've just started reading fiction again

- apart from classics (which I don't think I'd be interested in), could anyone recommend a good read or two, preferably from contemporary, not-so-mainstream writers. I've just finished reading Joyce Carol Oates' Zombies- sick, sick book but intriguing. Oh, yeah- something I can read while music is blasting through my newly acquired HD580

Snow Crash was pretty good SF. I also recommend anything by Chuck Palahniuk, especially Fight Club (tee hee).
