i'm looking for some interesting black metal in vein of windir. i also like enslaved, but i'm looking for more of the pagan/nordic/folk influenced black metal. not interested in bands like mayhem, immortal, dark funeral, etc.

also can you please list recommendations if you've listened to and ar familiar with the bands i've stated, because i don't want this thread turning into "your favorite black metal band". that wouldn't be very helpful for me

Åsmegin! Now, it isn't actually black metal, but it's black metalish.

Are you sure you don't want to check Emperor out in case you haven't already? It's musically really ambitious and progressive. Same goes for Limbonic Art.

I would assume that since the OP said he/she didn't want anything like Mayhem, Immortal, Dark Funeral they aren't interested in raw BM. Any of the "Hammerheart" era Graveland would be what they would want, but not those 3.

@OP

You may also want to check out:

Yes 1st two Satyricon have a very majestic atmospheric feel to them, like a dark kingdom in a land far away and lost in time.......style changed very much with third album Nemesis Divina:
-Dark Medieval Times
-Shadowthrone

Nacher to the rescue.........I intentionally omitted Asmegin from list to lure Nacher into posting since I knew it was one of his favs, he took the bait

Black Sol
I find middle period Graveland and early Nokturnal Mortum to be very majestic and hypnotic examples of pagan metal, really not hard edged or Nekro but answer the call of the spirits of nature.......also some Graveland like Immortal Pride and Celtic Winter are very hypnotic and trance inducing like some Summoning albums. Perhaps I should take thousand swords off list since it is an earlier more traditional BM album.

I really like Mithotyn also and have all albums.........

Serge 44
I thought I was only one on planet earth with Evol albums, he he

Alot of really good recommendations here, I'd throw Amon Amarth on the list as well.

And, probably not what you're looking for, but Dark Tranquillity's new album is very impressive.

Those two would be all fine and dandy if the OP had requested death metal, but they asked for "black metal in vein of windir". Also, DT sounded NOTHING like Windir even before they started to bite.

I agree. While Amon Amarth is very pagan and nordic...its not blackmetal. Early DT is MORE fitting but they arent very pagan/nordic at all and their style on these early albums is unorthodox and also not what I would consider black metal.

...Which is exactly why I prefaced it with "probably not what you're looking for"...

Clearly reading the entire sentence would be beneficial before you post elaborations on essentially exactly what I said. And I still feel that Amon Amarth is a reasonable recommendation, although not fitting entirely within the guidelines.

I would also recommend Finntroll's new album, although I haven't heard it personally, Ur Jordens Djup.

Then why bother making the suggestion?
