They don't color them, that's why they are yellow.

At one time they were actually colored black (maybe very dark blue) by senheisser. Then senheiser figured out that the dyes they were using were toxic and they stopped.

Newer dyes should be safe, but since its only used for an old product senheiser probably says "you should be happy you can get them at all".
