Since bitperfect is simply just perfect bit output, are these sound cards (ex av710) pretty much the same as like, for example a $5000 cd transport??

im assuming that the price diff between cd transports is their build quality + process of reading data off the CD.

Yes, if you just talk about getting the 1's and 0's off the CD, then it's pretty much the same. However when you talk about transferring the 1's and 0's to DAC, stories become a bit different.

like jahjah said. after this comes the quality of the dac, the quality of the amp, the cans, the cables, whether g-d loves you or not, etc.

Yes, like the quality of power supply, quality of the spinning mechanism, laser reader, and how "clean" the path is from the laser reader to the optical output. And once you go beyond certain price, you are simply dumping cash for the brand reputation.
