Hello gang!

I recently purchased Headroom's Microstack with DPS (and can't wait to receive it!). Because I do not have any optical outputs on my HP Livestrong notebook computer, I am going to have to go with a USB to Optical solution.
From what I have gathered, my options under $100 are the M-Audio Transit and the TBAAM. However, if I understand correctly, the TBAAM does not support a bit-perfect signal. Would the best solution be a M-Audio Transit, or are there other alternatives that I might have missed? Thanks in advance.

It sounds like the M-Audio Transit is exactly what you need.

Thanks, Scrith. I, too, have decided that is the best solution.

Maybe you should consider a USB ASIO driver? ASIO4All is free and there is another, easier to set up driver available for $50.

I don't mean both the Transit and ASIO, but ASIO instead of the USB->SPDIF conversion.

Try the ASIO4all and the trial of USB-ASIO using the USB connector for your MicroDAC before buying a different unit to add another jitter inducing layer to your system.

You do need to use ASIO or KS with Foobar (or equivalent) for BitPerfect.
