Haha, this reminds me of a friend of mine. Bought an expensive beamer, got a little fingerprint on the lens while mounting it on the ceiling, tried to clean that with a handkerchief.

Yes. I'm no expert but that's my understanding, because the DAC is the critical part.

I'm no expert but I note that Redgum audio states that they have a user replacable cd transport and a cheap transport is all that is needed to get good results as the work is done in their dac.

Not sure if this is always "the case" though as noise can be introduced in say getting a signal out of the CD to the DAC. I find the computer cd is not at the same high level into the Benchmark DAC1 as I get from the NAD CDP. I put this down to computer rf/emf noise etc.
