I'm wondering, is there a "pro" and a "non-pro" version of the DT 770 80-ohm headphone? What exactly does this terminology mean and which Beyerdynamic headphones does it apply to?

I don't think there is a non-pro version of the 770/80's. The non-pro designation is the same headphones as the pro's with a slightly different look and a bigger headband.

I think I remember reading that the goal of the "Pro" line is to emulate the soundstage of speakers. Or something like that.

I do have say that the DT770-80s are the most speaker sounding headphones that I have heard.Never heard the250 om version, but I have heard others say the 80s are a much better sounding headphone that the 250 om version.Alot better mids and the highs arn't as harsh sounding.

Umm, yeah. That was me who spread this false information. Beyer promoted the Pros that they are diffuse field equlizated, and wasn't writing the same for the Consumer Line. But since not long ago they claimed also for the Consumer Phones a Three Dimensional soundstage, so we came to the conclusion that they are basically the same phone. A look at the drivers made it finaly clear.
The Pros are clamping more to the head, which makes sense for a studio headphone. I guess it wouldn't be so good when the headphone is moving on your head or even falls down while you are recording or live broadcasting

The 770-80 "Pro" version also got in-line volume control.

There's DT 770-80 Pro, DT 770-250 Pro, DT 770 (non-pro) and DT 770-M.

The DT 770-250 (non-pro) is a more comfortable 250 Ohm version. The headband capacity is increased and there's less clamping force. The DT 770-250 Pro or 770-80 Pro might not fit on the biggest of heads (i.e. more than 10 clicks on each side of the HD 650).

Mine doesn't but there might be different versions (although unlikely).

saint.panda, you are right, I was thinking of 770M, which is Pro-modified with even more clamping force and volume-control (and supposedly more balanced?).
