Which cans are better for me:Beyerdynamic DT990 EDITION 2005 or Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO? I listen electronic music (Jean Michel-Jarre, Vangelis, Mike Oldfield), pop electronic (Depeche Mode, Alphaville, A-ha). My headphones amplifier is a tube amplifier (Yarland P100) and the source is SACD player Pioneer PD-D6-J.
My previous cans was Sennheiser HD595, not a fantastic sound in the bass area.
Thanks guys!

I've owned both the '05 2005 edition and tried the Pro version at a meet. I by far preferred the '05 version to the previous gen. The '05 990s have some pretty nice bass for a 'semi' open can. I felt it was peaky on the highs, but I think your tube will tame that quite well.

You are right of course, technically it is a fully open back headphone. I put the semi in quotes but I suppose that was a bit ambiguous--reason was that the 990 had more of a closed headphone sound signature for me, the soundstage wasn't as wide as some open back ones I've tried. Ironically the DT880, which is referred to as semi-open in some Beyer literature, felt like it had a wider soundstage.

So, it's better to choice 2005 EDITION...these are more expensive that PRO version...

I have 990 pros (which I like - surprisingly balanced), whilst the back have open grilles all but a small circle (an inch or so) in the middle is behind very thick heavy padding which effectively makes them semi closed. I cannot report that the pro that I have has an exaggerated treble or bass, both extend well but are not emphasised at the expense of mids.
