I've bought a pair of brand new Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250ohm for 50$ and I am impressed with their build quality and unsatisfied with the crappy, junk sound that they have.

Has anyone tried any mod that changes their sound radically?
I like softer highs(similar to Creative Aurvana Live) and DT770 Pro is totally the opposite, having very harsh highs and the sound is not sweet or engaging, it is somehow dull.

Brand new for $50? You sure it's not a counterfeit?

Anyway, the DT 770, 880 and 990 have their own sound signature and they are for micro-detail levels so one of them or all(?) do have very harsh highs. Although I like my DT770 more than DT880 because the 880 is unbearable in some content. To me the highs are softer of the 770.

What sources or DAC/amps are you plugging the DT770 into?

The 250 ohm requires a great deal of power to bring out the best of it. It’ll probably sound crappy indeed through onboard audio like a laptop or phone especially.
