hello, i bought the beyerdynamic dt 880 250Ω and i like it a lot, this is the first time i try the beyerdynamic drive, i was previously using the hd660s

now i'm wondering what's the difference between this and the 600Ω version, and what does enhance (soundstage? imaging? details?), considering that on paper my amp should be able to drive that impedance (i own the lake people g111 mk2)

also, i'm wondering how's the dt 1990 in terms of soundstage and imaging compared to the 880 and if it's an upgrade considering the price
i'm not budget limited, i just want the right beyer drive to my liking

thanks in advance!

The 600ohm DT880 is great... more detailed up top (a tad peakier) with a little more low mid warmth than the 250ohm version.

However neither can match the resolution, dynamics and soundstage of the DT1990, imo. I use the Dekoni velour pads on my 1990 - good balance between the stock Analytic and Balanced pads. And more comfy. Possibly more comfortable than my old 600ohm 880s.

The 600ohm 880s are quite wonderful from a good OTL amp. As are the DT1990s - it's good to have both!

The 600ohm has about 11percent less pre and post ringing so it's better, but not a huge margin. It needs current but not nearly as much as people say. I've had them sound great on a sound blaster X1 with 2.4 volts. No headroom to equalize, but loud enough.
I have a DT1990 and they are really nice if you can get a used pair around $325, but not worth MSRP.
The DT900 Pro X is in my opinion even better. I'm on the waiting list for the new DT770 Pro X coming out next month. I also have the DT177X and DT990 250ohm black edition. Out of all, I think they really got the DT900 Pro X right.

... Indeed! Woo Audio WA2 + DT880(600) was a gem pairing!

I now use Woo Audio WA3 + DT880(600). Another gem pairing!

How difficult is to drive the 600 ohm version compared to the 250 ohm?

I switched from a hd 660s 150ohm to the beyer 250ohm so of course the drive is much less sensitive, but how much more the same drive for the 600ohm?
