Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO // DT 1990 PRO MK II -- Impressions Thread

They should pair very nicely, it's really a matter of finding what pads you like more to your preferences. I don't have the DT 1990 anymore though, currently have a T1.2(quite new still) and the Amiron Home, both of which I personally prefer. Though it took like 3 months of ownership of both the DT 1990 and Amiron Home to grow to like the Amiron more.
I nearly bought a T1.2 a million times over but I can't face doing it, I like a warm headphone but then again I want something different but don't think the T1.2 is it for me

To me the T1.2 sounds like a better version of the DT 1990 with analytical pads. The DT 1990 with balanced pads is more of it's own thing and is different from both the T1.2 and Amiron Home. I only bought mine because I got a brand new one with warranty for $700, it's a limited edition black one which some reason was cheaper, I do prefer the look of the silver ones though. The T1.2 is warmer than you may think. It's warmer than a DT 1990 with analytical pads. Not quite Amiron Home warm though.

So what does the T1.2 have that the others don't, maybe I'm totally wrong here but the top of the line with beyerdynamic isn't so clear cut

The advantage of the T1.2 is going to be dynamic range, the imaging precision, and the overall smoothness of the presentation(the DT 1990 and Amiron are a tad rough up top in direct comparison), and just a better overall sense of cohesion and fullness/solidity. Soundstage is a bit bigger, the T1 focus is more on imaging precision and quality than soundstage width/size. That and the T1 does have better build quality and better durability plus a 5 year warranty vs 2 year. The Amiron Home and DT 1990 do have some points of failure, the T1 just doesn't have.

I'm sure your right but why do ppl review the Dt 1990 and rave about it but hate the T1.2

What are the points of failure I should keep an eye out for with the 1990?

Well be careful with the internals of the DT 1770/1990 and Amiron Home, the wire going to the driver is thin and very fragile, but luckily is replaceable. This didn't happen on my DT 1990 but rather my DT 1770 which has the same headband and build. The headband clasps where the adjuster is, may be a point of failure(they snapped on my DT 1770 and the headband cable failed on my DT 1770).

Because they sound fundamentally different in sound-signature, that’s why.
The T1.2 has a pretty hefty upper-mid ‘spike’, that the 1990’s don’t have. The T1.2 is like Marmite - you’ll either love it, or you’ll hate it, IMO.
Personally, I love my T1.2. BUT the 1990 is BY FAR the best all-rounder.

I don't experience any upper mid spike on my pair and I hate upper mid spikes, in fact this headphone is darker than either DT 1990 I've owned. Though an much older T1.2 I had briefly in the past did, it was overwhelming, I always thought it was just a bad pair, but maybe they retuned them.
