Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO // DT 1990 PRO MK II -- Impressions Thread

If someone is treble sensitive should they stay away from the DT1990pro. I returned my DT1770pro, it was amazing in all regards apart from sharp treble to my ears.

Also may I ask how the Sound stage compares to the HD650 which does have good sound stage.

I don't find find the treble fatiguing at all, its nicely extended and balanced in its presentation

I have the T1 now you would have something to complain about there if not a treble head.

I'm a person that likes darker or neutral headphones, I do like some bright if they are high enough fidelity and musical enough but they tend to get to me over time. True, I borrowed a T1 Gen 2 for a bit and found it a bit too much despite liking it's ethereal imaging. I personally listen to the DT 1990 with the balanced pads as I am having trouble getting used to the analytical pads presentation. I guess I like the more intimate presentation. The DT 1990 is only a little bright when coming from my Nighthawks but I adjust quickly to either headphone.

My issues with the 1990 is that for a headphone which is $600 USD I wish they had made it in balanced out of the box with 2 mini xlr plugs. Its so good it deserves to be heard in balanced mode.
The other issue is the pads boy they are hard to change. I wish Beyer would come up with an easier method.

Yeah, that is my main complaint about them too, I wish they just had the T1 Gen 2's cable system instead. The pads do get a little easier to do once you do it a few times.

I don't either, but on some systems I can see the treble fatiguing to some people, especially if they find the similar sounding DT 1770 fatiguing.

Nope, no treble issues, here either. Perhaps, DT-1770 and DT-1990 are the most un-beyer-like when it comes to beyer house sound.

True, though the DT 150, DT 100, and DT 48 don't follow the modern Beyer sound either, but those represent more of what Beyer used to sound like. Of the newer Beyers, the DT 1770 and DT 1990 are definitely different, especially in the mids.

Yes, the treble in the 1770 (and I assume the 1990) sounds much less peaky than the DTxx0 series IMO, although I've never had a problem with the Beyerdynamic treble overall. I guess some amps probably accentuate it too much.

I just got the 1990 and I have to say I am impressed. I am running it through the Schiit mjolnir 2 with some nice tubes. With the analytical pads on its very balanced . Everything seems in place. No treble spike . The bass is a vast improvement over the T1 it goes a lot deeper. The sound stage is nice to. Not as wide as my T1. It really just sounds so balanced not to much of anything. Detail is also very good. They have really improved the treble a whole heap from there earlier cans. Voices also sound really natural e.g., nothing sounds pumped frequency wise. Whats exciting with burn in I believe they will only improve further.

So with these being much less "Beyer-like" have they lost their "fun" sound? I've always liked beyers (particularly the 990s) because rather than being neutral and analytical they made things sound punchy and fun without sacrificing detail too much. I was hoping for more of a "grown up" DT990 rather than a baby T1.

IMO its the T1 without the treble spike and a richer bottom end. it really does sound so balanced. not to much of this or that. I personally was after a neutral sound that was analytical. I tend not to enjoy v shaped cans.

If anything they are funner than other Beyers. Well at least to me, they have a certain musicality and sweetness to their sound I don't quite get from other Beyers, making them oddly addictive in a way I don't get sick of. It's not really like the DT 990 or the T1, it's different than both. But more akin to the T1 than the DT 990. It's likely not what you're looking for as an upgrade to the DT 990.

Any reason why beyerdynamic spells its name with lower case 'b' and never 'B'?

Not sure myself, but my OCD flairs when I see people using a "B" instead of the proper "b". What's worse is when I see Beyer-Dynamic.
