Well masted albums sound like a dream on the DT1990

Two conclusions:
  1. DT1990 Pro is a great headphone.
  2. Don't waste time and money on badly mastered albums.
I certainly enjoy my DT1990 Pro :D

I will probably buy DT1990 Pro sometime in the future, I got hooked on the wide soundstage and slam of the 990 Pro 250. I have the 900 Pro X in the mail arriving soon and hope I like it too. Mostly hoping I can get a similar sound without having to use EQ, which is a must with the 990. Terrific cans for metal.

Listening to my MDR-Z7M2 right now, I got them to sound a lot like the 990 Pro by raising 6k a few notches, a little extra 10k and a minor bump at 80. The Sonys have more fine grain treble and dynamics are more lifelike, and yes there are more of discoverable micro dynamics, yet not quite the same prat and enthusiasm as the 990 Pro. Considering the 990 costs a fraction of the Z7M2, they are a fantastic deal.

So, somehow, 1990 looks inevitable as in wanting some of the best Beyer can offer, with the added problem of taming its infamous "murder treble". Not a big problem by the PC, as I can just EQ. And that's where the 900 Pro X fits, if it somehow needs less correction than the other two Beyers.

LoL ridiculous hobby, I could just be happy with my HD600 I've had for many years but well ....

Indeed, as I'm generally wild and crazy a spanking new DT1990 Pro is on its way ...

Some days ago, my left driver lost about half its volume in relation to the right driver. No crackling, no static noise. It's just a lot lower volume in the left. I have not played loud music or had any weird pops from my amp. I've opened them up and looked at the cables and there is no visble damage. I've switched R/L cables inside the headphone and tried a second amp. Still the same result which leads me to believe there is something wrong with the driver. Anyone have an idea about what could cause this and if there is a fix?

Good news is that you can always order a new driver from Beye, - and that they are VERY EASY to change. I have taken mine apart 4-5 times, and also replaced one sidecup because it got damanged ( and I wanted to look like new).... no tools are needed.

The bad news is that you'll need to buy new drivers and they are like 200 euro... https://europe.beyerdynamic.com/system-kit-dt-1990.html
I'd contant Beye and see if they are still under waranty.

Best of luck

Hi all, new to the forum so excuse me if this has been asked already. I wasn't able to find anything about this in the search. I purchased some Dekoni Elite Velour pads and wanted to test them against the B pads, which are my current preferred pads prior to EQ. Although I don't find them particularly hard to swap, they do take some time and I'm finding it hard to compare the sounds between the Dekoni and B pads this way. Is there some kind of a mount or ring I can purchase to make swapping faster?

But be careful, because the drivers will fall out if you tilt the cups down and remove the mounting ring...

The 1990 Pro has arrived!

Yes, the treble is spanking murderous, easy to tame on my digital mixer though. Parametric 8k down a lot of dBs and a few dB at 10k and the sound is fine. About the same perceived curve as the DT900 Pro X, but yes, the sound is finer grained and detailed, and bass is tighter. Less resonances in the cups. It's a notch up in resolution. Sounds like a pair of 990 Pro with better focus. Exactly what I expected and was seeking. Happy so far!

When not having the possibility to edit the curve, the 900 Pro X are far superior as they sound right direct from the box.

Biggest pro of the 1990 for me is the resolution of details, music that can sound congested and busy on most systems do not longer sound like that. Even very crowded mixes are resolved. Me like.

Heh, the 1990 Pro sounds so good I had to re-subscribe for Tidal HIFI. Youtube Music doesn't really cut it for this class of cans, not even when trying to see behind the "HIFI" and just listen to the music. Tidal surely do not sound much better, it's in the details and they are indeed a notch better.

Congrats on your purchase!

Have you checked out analytical pads?

No, I will run the Balanced pads for a few days to get accustomed to them. Possibly I will have use for the Analytical pads down the road when mixing/mastering. Really nice cans so are the other two Beyers but yeah these are a notch up!

Congratulations. But I did not understand the last sentence: do you mean 900 sound far superior to the 1990s?
Maybe this is the reason why panvarox asks if you did check out the analytical pads.
I did not test the new version of balanced pads, but five years ago these were waste of time, at least for me. I had to change them back after a short listening session.
a>b pads
Balanced pads sound muddy (to me).

I meant they sound far superior without an EQ; DT 900 Pro X can be driven by a potato and tonality is right straight from the box.

DT1990 Pro on the other hand do have this problematic amount of treble, you don't always have access to a good EQ, and it needs amping.

You could say Usability is superior on DT 900 Pro X, not general sound quality.

DT1990 Pro even with the balanced pads (I haven't tested the Analytical yet) sounds better in all registers except in the amount of treble. Control is better, resolution is better, slam is better etc in short when driven proper it's a better can. It could be I may like them even more with the Analytical pads, I like well controlled bass, I'll come to that. In any case, they have to be toned down in the treble. Not a problem with my digital mixer but may be with other sources.
