Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO // DT 1990 PRO MK II -- Impressions Thread

I personally agree I find Sennheiser is overpriced compare to Beyer and there are many subpar headphones from Sennheiser which are sadly rated better than they should be. Beyers in general have better drivers imho, just many complain about their treble especially in the past so they often overlook what their drivers were capable of. I think Beyerdynamic is slowly getting more of the recognition they deserve among the audiophile community and they have a solid lineup with a lot of variety in terms of sound signatures. Their importance to this hobby is often understated, they started it all basically with the first dynamic and hi-fi headphone and are the oldest headphone company.

Not sure what’s been with Sennheiser lately, they seem to be in a transition stage and not sure if they’re going to come out of it ahead. I hope they do as I would like to see some interesting stuff come out from Sennheiser, but their more recent releases just haven’t been as good as Beyers as a whole imho and there are big price gaps in their lineup.
the funniest part is that anybody who has ever bought a pad with fabric in the middle(which is like 90% of them) and swapped it onto a BD headphones knows it basically tames the treble. IMO I think they know this and offer it raw knowing that adding so many different pads doesn't ruin the sound and anyone with half a brain who has even bought a pad figures this out in 2 seconds.
For me
DT1990 -> Dekoni Choice Leather
DT990 -> Custom Focuspad-A modded
both with fabric in the middle

No need to buy extra rings, I can swap pads now under a minute easy. In fact the Dekoni pads are easier than stock. Just practice and you'll develop some tricks.
I hope to re-buy the 1990s in a few weeks :L3000: I will order directly from Beyerdynamic to include some rings and foam pads (maybe I will re-buy the Amiron Home in the future and I will also use the foam pads with them to see what happens :relieved:). I prefer to have the pads attached to the rings in order to make easier the swapping of different pads. Just extract the rings with the pads attached and put the aftermarket ones (or the analyticals).

I will try first with the foam pads and then with some Dekonis. My goal is to have the T 1.3 bass with the 1990s. I hope to get it :beyersmile:

Hi. Any DT1990 owners who have experienced the DT990? I currently have the DT990 Edition 32ohm but they're just a tiny bit too small - the bottom of my ears touch the pads (I do have a large head). One more notch of expansion and they'd fit perfectly. If i lift one cup and move the other one down a tiny bit they feel super comfy.

I'm interested in the DT1990 but I've searched this thread and googled but can't find out if they are the same in size. Thanks :)

They are basically the same size both are on the last notch :frowning2:

Maybe try to take the headpad out and use somthing else for padding

The A pads with Amiron Wireless foams are a great combo, with a touch of bass boost. I can use them w/o EQ.

I use the Dekoni Elite Hybrids for their passive bass boost, and EQ the mids and treble to restore the A pad signature sound. If you grab the Hybrids I'll send you my 31-band EQ profile for EQ APO.

Thank you very much @Cevisi , that is super helpful. Might just be the angle zof the pic but the DT990 Edition appear to be a little smaller:

This has given me hope that a pair of DT1990s might be in my future 😀

Will wait for the shops to reopen and find somewhere to try these in person.

Thanks again!

I will post this in some Beyer threads...

If any of you (people in general of the forum) from Europe is going to buy something from Beyerdynamic Germany (the web shop), could you contact with me via PM before make the order, please?

I have a problem with my order from their website and maybe you can help me, thanks in advance.

My DT-1990 are back in rotation, after a cable replacement.

It came open-box, and missing the stock straight cable, and Not caring for the coily, I replaced it with a cheap NewFantasia from Amazon, which I'd used happily on an M50x.

I was never quite satisfied, and found the bass especially odd, with either set of pads, although my SO really liked it.

Anyway, just re-equipped with a 2nd hand Periapt Type 5, and shazzam! It finally sounds right, with possibly the cleanest bottom of all my cans, and with B pads.

Amphenol and Mogami, no magic dust, but well done. I'll probably get a Type 7 for my DT-177x, whose stock cable is a little too springy for me.

Are you sure the sound is is better now with a new cable

I've gone back and forth a few times, and there's an unsubtle difference, changing only the cable.

I'm willing to call the Amazon cable defective in some indeterminate way, or maybe the Mogami in the Periapt is just that much better.

Either way, the Periapt looks good, sounds great and doesn't kink or twist up like the other, so I'm happy happy.

M1070 arrived, get to compare to DT-1990. I'll have to swap in the A pads for that.
Interested in this I have the M1570 on the way and just got the M570.... The M570 is actually very close to nipping at it's buds as far as my favorites, and my 1990 are rocking Dekonis but with B pads the 1990 obliterates it for detail let alone A pads, either way the M570 sounds more natural and has plenty of detail and resolution and good soundstage, you honestly aren't missing much if anything as far as easy listening goes and it's faster being planar vs the 1990 even being 250 ohm

The M1070 is doing very well with detail retreival. I do not feel like I am missing anything compared to the DT-1990. And amusingly, I find the M1070 more energetic of the two, which is something the Dt-1990 is known for. Mids are more forward, but I was EQ'ing my DT-1990 with +3dB in that region, so I'm ok with it.

soundstage and imaging is where I would assume is the most difference as well as just being generally more V shaped and having dynamic punch but you tell me man I am looking forward to having a DT1990 rival or better although IDK about you I will keep mine still it's built like a tank
