Hi everyone,

My first post here!
I know the subject might not be new but I would like to have your expertise on this:

I have a Fiio E18. I use it as my desktop DAC and also as an amp with my ipod and ipad.
I want to buy a pair of Byerdynamics DT 880/990 but I don't know if I should go 32 Ohm or 250 Ohm.

Thank you very much for you help!!

I'm not sure which option is "best" but both are viable. I own the E18 and it has no trouble driving my HD650 (300Ohm) on low gain.

Thank´s Zorrofox.
Since I will mainly use them at home with E18, I might go for the 250 version.
I will use them very ocasionaly on my iphone. With and without the E18.
I heard that even the 32 Ohm version needs amp to get the best of it.

As long as your using a decent amplifier to drive your headphones, might as well just get the cheaper 250-Ohm headphones.

If you bought the 40-Ohm Audio Technica ATH-AD900X (open) headphones, you should be able to use them plugged directly into the iPod and iPad (using the E18 would be optional).
So you could just leave the E18 plugged into your desktop.

I'm an Android phone person but from what I've read around here the iPhone will probably drive the 250 Ohm version to acceptable levels.

I will always use them with amp. That´s for sure. I prefer in ear for potability.
I just don't want to regret from have chosen the 250 over the 32 as they are the same price.

What prices are the 250-ohm and 32-ohm?

You seem to have decided on Beyerdynamic but not on which model - 880 or 990. If the amp is going to be permanently attached to a USB on a desktop or laptop might that not cause problems with the E18's internal battery? The E18 is a portable amp. If portability isn't necessary there may be other options. An ODAC and/or O2 might be an option. They sure sound better.

  Both for 251 Eur.

I'm assuming you are looking at the 250-Ohm Premium and 32-ohm Premium versions?
Get the cheaper 250-Ohm Pro version.

I have the dt880 600ohm running on a fiio e12 and schiit modi. The dt and the e12 came as a package. A great match too these semi noob ears. At normal gain they get to the threshold of comfort as high as I would listen. Too loud for extended listening. With the fiio gain on high knob never gets past 11-12 o clock. Don't know how the e12 compares to the other fiio models in power output. I think it's relatively powerful. It's very clean. No distortion even at max vol with normal gain and no noise with high gain and low vol. I've run the dr880 600 ohm from just an iPhone headphone jack and it's quiet and lacks dynamics but it's not unlistenable. Given that the low ohm versions of the dt series don't have as strong reviews I'd recommend the mid ohm model, or the 600 ohm if your tied to one location as I use them. With the e12 I can take the amp if needed. I run the e12 plugged in usually. Needs a clean USB line, ie the USB cable goes right into a separate power adapter otherwise there is audible static from the computers USB hubs. Have not heard the 990 but the dt880 is fantastic.

The 250 ohm version will sound fine out of an iPhone - not at its best, but pretty great for occaisional use!

Guys, I would like to buy a Byerdynamics DT990 Pro 250ohm with xonar essence stx but I would like a portable amp to use with notebook.

What portable Amp is recommended to use with it?

I advise, depends the budget you have but, the Aloaudio International. it is a remarkable amp/dac. It has a 3.5 mm output and also a mini balanced output for you headphones. There are some companies that mod your byer dt to have removable cables with different end plugs.
