Beyer T1 size compared to 880?

My LCD-2 is finally starting to bother my neck and I need to move to something lighter.

I have the Senn 600 and Beyer 880 in house right now and am leaning towards the Senn.  That said, I've never heard the T1 but the 880 just barely fits and my ears do rub on the inside.  So before I drop T1 money down, I'd like to know if it's larger than the 880 both in reach and cup size?

I was not a fan of the Senn 800 but suppose in late March I can add the 700 to my try list.

Grr, off topic but why oh why did Beyer shrink them.  Once upon a time I had the 04? 880 and it had few spare clicks in the headband.  Psst Beyer, AKG... make them bigger :p

I'm also curious about this. When I try on my gf's 880s they barely come down far enough on my head, especially when I am wearing my cap. And I have TINY ears, and they barely fit in the cups as well-I can see how someone with a large head/ears would have serious fit/comfort problems as well. Guess I'm curious about the T1 size as well since I'll be picking those up in the next couple of months.

I do not have the T1, but it uses the same ear pads as the 880, just in black color (EDT990VB). So, the size is probably at least very similar, but maybe the headband extension range on the T1 is not so limited (I have to use the maximum with the DT880 Pro), and it does not seem to have the thick foam and felt covering the drivers that leaves less room for the ears (see picture here, vs. 880 here).

The T70 can use the same pads, and is nearly the same size as any of the PRO models I've seen (But never worn). The T1 looks to be very similar to that; not exactly "big." I agree with the frustration about the down-sizing of headphones. The HD 600 and 650 are good candidates for "large" ears, the Koss ESP/950 is as well.

Yep, T1 now that I think about it would have the title of 'smallest flagship'

 HD800, LCD-3, W5000, PS1000, Edition 10 - all bigger headphones.

I don't have the DT880, but I can confirm that the T1's earcups are the same size as the DT990.

Also, the radius of curvature of the headband is, if I'm not mistaken, just a tiny bit smaller, and there's slightly more clamping force. But the headband is not as bent as the DT770pro and that one has a lot more clamping force as well.

I think they are big, and fit my ears with space to spare. I see you are from Ottawa, Planet of Sound has T1's available for audition.

To answer my own question...

The T1 cups are the same size but deeper so the ear doesn't touch the driver like the 880.  The headband is a good deal softer and extends two notches further than the 880.  So, it fits :D  Unfortunately I only got a chance to wear it not hear it so I'm still up in the air.

Thanks you! My biggest worry was that the headband got the 'short stick' like the 880.

I just got my T1 in the mail today and I'm coming from the DT990... So far, I don't care for the fit... (Granted, I hated the fit of the DT990 vs the HD598 when I made that transition originally and now I love the DT990 fit...) There is just a bit too much clamping force and the headband is a bit more tense. I'm hoping that the band will grow more in line with my head with more use. (I'm still in hour 1 of use...)

As to the ear cups? They are the same circumference, but the drivers are actually a bit closer to your ear on one side as the driver is angled. It doesn't really bother me, though.... and I do have a big head and fairly large ears. I'll let you know if things change. :)

As with all headphones... over night on an 8" wide stack of something and boom, pads and headband are softer.  I have it easy, my Tannoy are just the right size for the exercise :D
