Hi everyone. I haven't tried a pair of DT880s yet, since there isn't a local dealer in Seattle, but I did try the DT770 at a recent Head-Fi meet. The bass was just out of control and not for me, though the massive sound-stage was outstanding. I have seen so many reviews of the DT880 250 ohm and everyone seems to agree that with most sources & amps, the treble is pretty powerful and in many cases too much. I'm wondering if folks with the 600 ohm version notice any reduction in the treble. Is it less harsh? How does the mid-range and treble compare to other phones like the HD600 or HD650?

I have really enjoyed the HD600, but I think that the DT880 600 ohm could be the phones for me if the highs are kicked-down a bit. Thanks!

I have the DT880 in the 600 ohm configuration...

One of the reasons I special ordered the 600 ohm, was the number of reviews which stated that this version smoothed out the frequency spectrum, balancing the highs with the mids and lowers.

In the year of which I have owned the DT880 (600 ohms) I have found them to be a neutral presentation, yet with wonderful detail and clarity. Some of the owners of the 250 ohm version claim their phones can border on sibilance, but my 600's don't (IMO).

The only challenge is making sure your amp can properly drive them.

In addition to the 600 ohm, the other nice aspect of ordering custom from Beyerdynamics is the ability to design your preferred color combination

Where were you guys last week when I had my DT880's / 600 ohms posted in the For Sale section?

I owned both these phones and the AKG K701's... Needed some cash though

Another Head-Fi member wanted my K701's bad, thus I sold them.

So the DT880's are still my primary headphone. They are great sounding

What amp are you using for the headphones? For 600 ohms I guess the amp needs some good power. Any in particular you would recommend?

Joe's thread is the first time I had heard of the 600 ohm version. Any chance you'll put yours up for sale again?

I am using the Corda HA2 MkII SE by Jan Meier...

For Amp recommendations, this Thread has some useful info:

Now that I sold my K701's the Beyers DT880's are my main headphone...

I really love the DT880's, but I am also intrigued with some of the Audio Technica Headphones...

Here is the link from last weeks FS
