I know there has been multiple threads like this, but I couldn't find any solid answers. I have Beyer DT770 Pro 250 ohms in the mail coming to me now. I would like to buy a portable amp for them, and I would like it to be under $150. I have looked at the NuForce Icon for $129, the PA2v2, FiiO E7, FiiO E11 and several others. Which amp has enough power to drive 250 ohms? I am open to ny suggestions.
I have the same cans, and so far I haven't found an amp under $150 that does them justice. I've tried quite a few, but the one that does them best so far is my Pico DAC/Amp - alas it's $500. I have however just placed an order for the new Fiio E17 and am hoping for good results. And the E17 does meet your 'under $150' stipulation. Unfortunately like the rest of us, you'll have to wait until I receive the E17 (within 2 weeks hopefully) to get the scoop.
If you do come across an amp that fits the bill for the DT770 Pro 250 cans, especially if it's portable, let me know! There are lots of desktop amps that will meet the need, but it's when you try to go portable that it becomes a problem.
Nick R - not sure if you're still looking, but I've posted my comments about the Fiio E17 + E9 with the Beyers over on the E17 First Impressions thread. In general, I would say the DT770/250 mates nicely with the E17, and even better when used in conjunction with the E9. One of my local Head-Fi forum members also just built a JDS Labs CMoybb and is very pleased with the Beyer DT770/250 using it. Hope you're having some success in your search.
