So I have the DT770-80's and have heard that there are mods to make them, even better than they already are, but I don't know about most of them. I know about getting them recabled and woodying them, neither of which I can afford right now, but would like to try some DIY mods. I've also heard about a headband mod, but haven't been able to find it in the forums.
Thanks.

you could get some leather pads, supposed to have an effect on the sound. They're like $50 though, so I'd try to find a used set.

I have the leather pads and the velour pads, and i don't notice any difference that I'd prefer one over the other, just different feeling. leather is softer, but warmer. i usually have the leather on them, feels more luxurious, but I wouldn't be any less satisfied with the sound if I only had the velour.

so yeah, hope that helps with that purchasing decision.

maybe a DIY cable?

Get 880/990 velour pads. The velour pads of 880/990 are completely different from those of 770s. They will reduce the bloated bass and will open up some mids and high. (look for part # EDT-990V)

I read somewhere that it helps to take off the foam and the ring on the driver. I tried, but I didn't noticed any diffence. But maybe you do.
What makes a difference to my opinion was to replace the stock earpads for the pleather earpads of my AKG-K271. It makes the sound softer, less sibilance, and tamed the bass a little bit.

Ehm, the Dt 880/990 have a different way to put earpads on them.
They are already mounted on a ring, which you have to 'click'.
The DT770 earpads have a plastic edge that you have to fold on a ring.
So the 880/990 pads will never fit.

It is not a mod, but you can get the Corda Arietta Amp, and you will see a lot of difference too in sound quality in general; or i call it a true synergy vs your PA2V2 (in my setup, it distorts the bass and treble after of 1 o'clock). Besides it drive much better my DT770pro than my DT990.
