What would your recommendation be for a good portable (without an amp)? We both seem to feel the same way about the dt250-80s and I see in your profile that you have similar musical tastes. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,

I haven't found any contemporary portable CDP that adequately powers a headphone by itself. So I've simply resigned myself to using a portable amp with my portable CDP (I use a Sony D-FJ61 CDP) and with it I use a Meier Audio Porta-Corda. I found I wasn't happy with a single 9v supply for the Porta Corda so I use two 9v batts in series for 18v supply. I run line out from the Sony into the Porta Corda and am fairly well pleased with the result. It even adequately drives my AKG-K501s.
