I dont know about anyone else interested in beyer's, but it would sure be helpful to me if some people could give and actual side by side...by side comparison of the:
DT 770's, DT 880's, DT 990's, and any other "sub models" corresponding to those three (ohm differences and such)
another person to ask would be snufkin, like Jensl, he has pretty much heard the whole range, and can provide details on small differences in the sound.
Based on personal opinion, I would definitely look at the DT770-80 ohm version as well as the DT990. the DT880 have as yet eluded me for auditioning purposes in detail.
I just got my DJX-1 and I must say I like them. They are loud, you really need no amp for them. They have a block rocking bass, stronger than the DT 990. The mids and trebble is balanced, they are neither veiled nor bright, just right. The soundstage seems huge, but it's too early to tell finaly as I'm still testing and they are not burned in yet. You can fold them together and then cary them in the nice plastic leather bag that comes with them. The isolation is quite good and they have a nice coiled cable
The bad things I discovered so far: They clamp alot! But I guess it has to be that way, as they are DJ Headphones and DJs usually move a lot when using them. The earcups are smaller than then DT 990 earcups and not with velour coverage. They are pleather earcups.
I would say these are really worth a look if you want some good sounding closed bass cans that you can use right out of the iPod without any amp. Sonicaly they don't have to hide behind the big Beyerz, especially not at a price around 100 €. I'm not sure if they even beat them
