They just killed my internet connection.

I had to do several uninstalls to get back my connection.

One of them did it and I am not sure which one.

My computer has been flaky with certain things. Maybe that was the case. Good to hear your connection is fine.

I don't use Microsoft Windows much anymore, but I do know that it is a recent installation. Perhaps it is time for you to check your registry, hard drive, and do some maintenance?

I have all that set up on auto using Norton. Each night I defra. Once a week I backup. Each day I do the auto check for errors. I do not know what more that I can do to keep it top condition.

I do a virus check each night over all drives. This checks almost 1 million files each day. I update norton automatically as well using LIveupdate.

This is a little more than most do I would think.

One other area where I have problems and that is the USB devices. Those that required their own drivers almost always go flaky on me.

Oh, well. This is a Dell 8100 vintage Sept 2001. I am hoping it will get me into 2008. Maybe not.

Heh, my PC is from around the same time... no way it's gonna get me into 2008 though (motherboard or RAM is getting flaky, monitor's starting to die).

Thanx for the warning re: updates, I'll wait a week or so to give MS time to fix any potential issues (I'm on Win2k though, so there may not be any).

slwiser: I'd suggest to get rid of that Norton stuff - not only in my experience, it tends to be more harm- than useful.

P.S.: And another hint: Personally, I always deactivate most third party services on my pcs using msconfig, before I run Windows Update.

I also advise uninstalling Norton. It's been nothing but trouble whenever I've used it, and uses an unbelieveable amount of RAM for what it's doing.

Norton is a real PITA. My comp is running very well after I uninstalled Norton.

No problem with the MS updates on mine...so far.
