Between The Buried And Me

I don't understand why everyone is putting down Tommy's vocals. I think he is one of the most talented vocalists in the genre, with nice raspy growls and a good mix of clean singing. Is it the fact that he growls at all?

I don't think the word 'singing' should be a valid verb for this band.

Ironically enough, I like the vocals more than I like the instrumental bits. I think it's the tone, but I find "prog metal guitars" (I don't have a better term for it, but the intro to Prequel to the Sequel and Dream Theater's guitar fit into this area, if that makes sense) incredibly grating. I don't like Rush much either, for the record.

I just haven't gotten into screaming or growling yet. Maybe one day I will, but it always bothers me AND I feel like a fool while listening to it. And god forbid singing along

Weird,I like the tone they have going on this song. They tracked most of the album with JCM 800's so you can't call them out for using a bad amp.

Mate, have a listen to the BTBAM "Soft" Mix and you'll hear that it is indeed a valid verb for the band. I don't think you can judge a band by one YouTube video, especially if you don't have prior experience with the genre but this gives a good example of the lighter passages you can expect if you listen to one of their CDs in its entirety.
