I've had MS-1's for a month and a half and I've had but a small taste of Grado bliss and think I'm ready for the next level. I'm thinking either SR 225's or HF-1's. I know all Grado's seem to be designed for rock, but between these 2, which is more enjoyable? I was also considering MS2i or 325i but don't think the added weight of the aluminum would be very comfortable.

Having owned both for quite a while, I can safely say there's nothing I prefer about the SR225.

HF-1 is clearly better in everything.

My friend (and I) auditioned RS-1 and HF-1 for a good time at a local super-mini-meet. Surprisingly he liked HF-1 better than RS-1. I liked RS-1 more but the difference was really small. RS-1 had better soundstaging and resolution but HF-1 has more forward sound.

But where exactly where would one get HF-1s since no one wants to get rid of them since their so good.

Find someone who owns a pair, then hold them hostage until they give them up. But, i doubt that'l work as no one will hand them over

Depends on how heavy your rock is...ok...that was just bad but seriously, it does. If your idea of a rocking good time is listening to Metallica or Slayer with the volume cranked up, nothing I've heard to date beats the 225. If you rock is somewhat more tame, say, The Rolling Stones, then the extra warmth of the HF-1 is a good thing, and it becomes the preferred 'phone for me.

Thanks for the clarification.

While I didn't own the 225's, I did spend a fair amount of time with them. And I will agree with the quote above... there was nothing I preferred about the 225's over my HF-1's with any type of music.

And I'll go one step more... beyond some treble and bass detail, I found the HF-1's preferable to the 325i's! The HF-1's not only rock with rock, they are a far more well-rounded can than any other Prestige Series can.

Ok, so consensus seems that the HF-1 is significantly better than the SR-225, but when converted to Australian dollars the HF-1 is about $140 dearer (compared to a secong hand SR-225).
Is it that much better?
