i have enough budget to purchase a dx1000 and a modest amp. but i'm wondering if its truly worth every penny or if i would b happier going with inferior models like denon d5000 or ATH 2000 and a pricier amp. i know quality is subjective but is dx1000 worth double the price of its weaker competitors?

I don't know if I would get the dx1000 at the prices they are now though a lot of people like them. I've seen them go used for 500-600 dollars awhile ago but nowadays it seems the price is much higher even used. The d5000 and ad2000 are definitely worth looking into, but you should post what kind of sound you like. The other big names are worth thinking about too (Grado Sennheiser AKG Beyerdynamic etc).
