I'm considering shortening the 3m straight cable of my Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 80 ohm down to 1.2m

I'm wondering if the best solution is to do it at the cup level (open the cup, unsolder, cut the cable, resolder) or at the jack level (cut the cable, solder a new jack if I find one made for this).

The idea is to preserve the quality of the signal as much as possible.

Any recommendation?

Thanks

Is the strain relief molded into the cable jacket on the cup side?

To me, it looks like it's molded as part of the cable jacket but I don't know for certain.

If it is and you shorten on the cup side, you'd have to replace the strain relief.

What I'd suggest if you're going to mod the headphones anyway, replace the fixed cable with mini XLR on the cup side.
