I just got back from a performance of this piece (my first!), and was hoping to pick up a recording.

So far, the only 'criticially acclaimed' CD I've found is the one with Karajan and the BPO on DG (400038), but I was hoping to tap into the collective experiences of the members here for further recommendations.

Lastly, SQ is important for me so I'd prefer that 'historical' recommendations Be skipped.

Thanks all!

I've heard a few versions, including the one from the Litton/Bournemouth set, and an RCA reissue with the Moscow Soloists. My favourite is still a bargain basement version on Point Classics!

I'm a pushover for sacd/multichannel sound, so my favorite version is the Marco Boni, Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra (pentatone) recording. It has the Souvenir de Florence, op. 70 coupled with it.
