I am doing a serious upgrade this summer, and with the other things im going to get, i cant afford a nice deck. I want a 'portable' unit for home use. Ive been looking into the D25S but I hear its bright, thats not good for a basshead like me, right?

If you want bass... look at the Sony D141... not the most refined bass in the world, but even without megabass being engaged, it gives your cans a serious workout!

...I'm getting my hands on a D25S in a couple of weeks, if you're still undecided, i'll compare the bass of the 25S to the 141

That would be awsome. Im looking to maybe hook the unit up to a RA-1 clone and a nice set of Grados. How much does a 141, in decent condition, run for these days?

$15-$20 on ebay...

...One of the hidden gems of the Discman world

The 141 does have a line out, yes... and its powered by 2 AA batteries, so is technically portable (even though it doesn't have shock protection)

Its maybe not one of the best ever Discmen, but its definetly better (through the headphone out at least) than todays junky offerings

oh yeah, i have a d33 and the headphone out has bass to spare. compared to the d777 the d33 heapdhone out is a bit wooly in the bass area. the line out on the d33 is fine, though--bright, detailed and airy.

agreed, i really love using my D33 for some stationary listening in front of the pc, its a great sounding pcdp. It can be found quite cheap on ebay.
