I've been wanting to buy some nice pair of headphones for awhile now but become very indecisive when picking one.

The type of music I'll be listening to:

Pink Floyd (I would like a 'spacious' sound but not necessary)
Nirvana (I want the drums to kick)
Brian Eno
Radiohead
Enya
Some Hip-Hop (Would like decent bass, not a basshead)
Jake Bugg (mainly acoustic guitar)

The type of sound I want:
Nice bass, sub-bass, drums that kick, spacious sound, overall clarity.

Budget:

Something around $150 but I'm willing to spend another $50 if worth it.

Headphones I've considered:

Ath M50
SR80i
HM5
598

THX A BUNCH

Beyerdynamic DT990 250 ohm for $145 on Amazon might be the best choice for you. Open headphones which will have a more spacious sound than any closed headphones. Good bass and well known for clarity. However, they do need a headphone amp. For instance, a lot of onboard computer audio wouldn't support it, but most internal add-on sound cards would. For use with portable devices (phones/mp3 players) you'd need something like the FiiiO E11.

Philips X1 are 30 ohm headphones with 100db sensitivity. They should work fine with all portable devices. So unless you decide you want even more volume out of them, you should not need a headphone amp.
