ok, so i'm on the go all the time. i don't mind having huge cans,
but looks and it being unamped is good for me.

Heres the Combatants :

ATH-A700's vs. ATH-ES7's vs. ??????

Are there any headphones I can order IN THE US that are best under these specs?

1)best performance that won't need to be amped from ipod 5.5 g
2)size doesn't matter, but looks sorta do
3)NO IEM or EARBUDS, i have super.fi's
4)Under 200$
5)Closed back.

thanks!

I have a 5.5G + ATH-ESW7 and I'm currently using it unamped, because my amp is on the way.
From what I can tell so far, the sound isn't mindblowing by any means, but maybe it's because I'm a bit spoiled (as I have only just switched to iPods).

If we forget that amps exist at all, I would say that the sound quality is good enough. Especially when you can slip it into the back pocket of your jeans.

I have the ATH-A900LTD's. I know way over the $200 budget. They are very easy to drive, Same will be true for the A700's. I vote for ATH-A700

yeah the LTD's are a little out of my budget for portable audio
but i think the ath-a700's win over everything in their price range

its portable headset then home audio headset and amp, then LOD then Portable amp :O so im trying to save money for the a700's
