I am contemplating buying a La Figaro 339 and a pair of Sennheiser HD 650 headphones.
After a lot of research the tubes I have on my list to buy are:
Mullard 6080 power tubes.
Tung-Sol 6SJ7GT 6SJ7 Mesh Plate Tubes.
6AS7G Svetlana Wing 'C' logo matched pair.
Red RCA 5693 with a red GE 5693.
I like a warm sound and only listen to CD's. My amp (Musical Fidelity KW550) has a tube pre amp and my DAC (Musical Fidelity KW DM25) has a tube output. I live in a terraced house so want a headphone set up to listen late at night, but have decided to do it well to ensure the best results. I am hoping it is good enough to listen to anytime!!
Could I please ask anybodies advice/opinion on my choice of tubes and the best place to purchase a Figaro 339. The places I know of are Doukaudio, AliExpress or yuking09 (all online). Also, will it make any difference that the red 5693's are different brands (one RCA and one GE)? If anyone disagrees with my choice of tubes would you please recommend alternatives? Finally, what is the difference between the original 339 and the upgraded one? Does the upgrade make a significant difference? How can you tell which version a 339 for sale will be?
Many thanks.

All of those tubes are gonna be real warm, especially matched up with an HD650. I personally prefer TS over RCA,and you might look into a pair of Bendix 6080s. theyre great sounding, but not cheap.
You might ask @UntilThen he rolled a lot of tubes when he had his 339.

Many thanks for reply. Any ideas re difference between an original and upgraded 339 and how to identify difference?

I do not. I know Drop is(or was as of a few days ago)selling the new version of the 339. You might read up over there.

I had the original 339 and liked it good enough for the price.

EDIT: Looks like it ended already, but you might be able to get some info from their page.

Many thanks.
It's the 339i on drop. I don't know the difference between them. Is the 339i a 339 with a preamp? Don't know 100% how drop works or where they send their goods from.
Any ideas?

They used to be called Massdrop, but changed the name awhile back. Typically they get a limited number of items and offer them at less than what you would find elsewhere.
When the allotment is sold, the drop is done, but usually the items come back around every few months.
I do not know the differences between the 339 and the 339i.

Many thanks for help so far.
I signed up to drop only to be told the 339i drop was finished!!
Yeah, thats the way Drop works. Request it and you will get an email when it rolls around again, which is usually every 3-4 months, and then only for a handful of days. Rinse/repeat.
Or you can nab one from one of the companies you mentioned above. Those have it in stock all the time I believe.
