I would appreciate some advice on the best headphones that can be used without an external amp. The headphones will plug directly to sources like an iPhone. So far I read the Audio Technica ATH-M50 can be used without an amp. Are there any other higher-quality headphones with excellent sound quality that can be used without an amp?

Are you looking for portable use?  I am assuming if you're plugging into an iphone you are.  You can check this guide for many options!

Thanks for the prompt reply. It does not necessarily need to be portable but the earpiece definitely needs to sit on the ear preferably around it. I dislike earpieces that stick into the ear canal.
