Hi,

I am looking for the best soundstage for CLOSED headphones under 200$ ? What I am looking for are headphones that sound like opens cans... but being closed. I have a pair of Renkforce CD340 with Shure 940 velour pads and these are the most open sounding closed cans I ever heared. If you hace a pair of Ypga cd340 OEMs give these pads a try, and you might have found you favorite home/office phone. But I am looking for something portable.

To sum up:
- closed headphones
- must sound very "opened"
- comfortable pads (original or upgrade)
- portable: no need for amp, foldable would be a +
- if possible under 200$

Any idea?

AKG K550 (probably the best, a bit over your budget), Audio Technica ATH-A700X and ATH-A900X (the second best) Brainwavz HM5 or Soundmagic HP100, as far as I remember. Maybe the Shure SRH440 too, but I've read opinions on both sides considering soundstage.

AKG K550 (probably the best, a bit over your budget),

Not if you don't mind going factory refurbished. Harman has them for $130. Price/performance, that's DEFINITELY by far the best value for soundstage in a closed headphone you will find in your budget :)

See if they will ship international.

Hi guys, thanks for the answers. I can get them new for around 200$ locally. I just wanted to be sure I am not missing something before pulling the trigger.

Also, I wanted to check the more portable options, as the AKGs don't fold I believe, so they might be in danger in my EDC bag.

How does the DT660 soundstage compare to the AKG K550?

Did someone try the SRH440 with HM5 pads? How does it compare soundstage wise to other references like AKG K550, DT660 or HM5?

Finally, I have still an order going for the Yamaha MT220. Does anyone know how these would compare to the other references we have here?
