Best soundcard for optical out use only?

Nothing will be better. With the jitter reduction of the DAC1, as long as you have bit-perfect out on the optical (or, if you like, resampled to 192khz), that's as good as it gets. Don't worry, be happy.

A few observations of my experiences.

The DAC1 is not immune to jitter or power conditions. I hear differences in the digital signal quality, digital cables, and power easily. But my system is sensitive so this may not be evident for others.

Jitter is hard to hear. The difference is usually small.

There is no soundcard that is significantly better than the other in the digital output.

You will need to have your soundcard modded and/or some kind of external device as a clock if you wish to have better performance.

The DAC1 isn't as good as can be to notice a difference. Less jitter would enhance the clarity, bass, and treble but I would suggest modding the DAC1 first because I find the stock DAC1 a bit "hazy". Of course this is all relative. There are people who are plenty satisfied with their DAC1s.
