Best power solution (cord + conditioner) for <$1k

kartik, sorry for hijacking this thread, but I am in the same boat as you. I am looking for a cheaper solution mostly to provide surge protection for my components. Especially since my wall outlet runs over voltage, typically around 124 volts. I am also looking to clear up line noise.

Tom, how is that panamax 5500? It is a decent price from the etronics store.

I would also be interested in a used PS Audio P300.

The thing I am most afraid of is limiting of dynamics. I do not want line conditioning at the cost of dulled transients.

Kartik and Canman,

Any kind of surge protection will inhibit your system in my experience. As canman points out, dynamics is usually the first to go and I also attribute a sort of "dryness" to the sound. In fact I've had experience with some products that just plain act funny when you use a power filter. Better powercords won't get you anything in the protection department. I don't believe PS Audio's Ultimate Outlet will either although it's fantastic at cleaning up the sound without mucking it up. Your only real solution is the PS Audio P300 on the used market. I don't put a lot of stock in the "multiwave" version and the price will be much cheaper without it anyway since it is an older and somewhat "obsoleted" product in the market's eyes.

Kartik--you'll probably be OK with the P300 because I would think your digital amp isn't all that demanding from the wall. Canman--I believe you can get away with putting your Wadia and the RKV/KGSS through it but the Classe might be a bit much. PS Audio has a section of their site where you can write in with your equipment and they'll tell you if it will work or not.
