FYI there is no correlation in CPU speed VS internet speed.

i should know, i use broadband at full rate on an old ibm pentium 100mhz laptop

Am I missing something here? I really don't understand how a tablet/small pc would be the best portable rig. Aren't we talking about SQ here? Doesn't mean if it has a hulking processor or w/e specs it is going to sound better. I can see how some people would like it. The nice big touchscreen, big HDD, acts as a computer, view e-mail etc. but I feel that it is not the best portable rig. I mean I have an upgraded 7.1 24bit Creative soundcard but it doesn't sound better than my RH1. With a tablet using stock soundcard would it really be the best? And the HDD on portable DAPs could easily be upgraded to a bigger capacity. Correct me if I'm looking at this wrong.

Lmao, there is no way you can justify that cost. If I was going to blow that much money I would much rather get the gold plated 60GB Kenwood.

Oh, to contribute to the topic, throw in some used R10s and that would surely raise the price.

Why? I'd consider 120gigs, a line-level line-out, and a digital out more important than just a good HPO. And it isn't even out yet, we don't know if it sucks or not.

If I weren't moving more to a home setup, I'd probably get it.

The computer just provides the digital data to the external DAC. The interface is important also to most. The DAC and amplifier handle the sound quality, there isn't much to judge the sound quality on with the computer as long as it can handle sending the data stream.

There is a difference between benchmarking bandwidth and actual web surfing. You must not be a obsessed tab user then. Firefox, flash, java, yeah, your old 100MHz Pentium will handle all the internets just as fast as any current computer.

Are we talking about 2007 or 1997 here?

Pentium 100MHz.

Sony R10's costing less than $3000.....

Yeah, but that would hardly make it portable anymore, you have to carry a small pc, dac and a separate amp. If the tablet is just going to be purely used as a streaming source it seems like a waste, why not something more reasonable? ie the iRiver H140 if you want a DAP with digital out.

Understood, I guess we are talking about more of a transportable source here. Its fun just to dream of what could provide the best sound without plugging into an outlet. I suppose the microdac could provide better sound then something like the ibasso D1 and at least the corda move according to some.

I wonder if the Cowon D3 supports USB DACs/Sound Cards? It's running a version of Windows and has USB host support, it's a long shot... but would be nice?
