This is a loaded question as everyone will have a different opinion. The best thing to do would be to sample some devices before you buy and decide what you are going to use it for and what options you will need on it. My personal choice in that price range would be a cowon s9 or j3. You could also try to find a sansa fuze v2 or clip plus and then rockbox it. You would also have enough cash leftover for a micro sd card.
