I use an Apple USB c to 3.5mm adapter and it has really nice sound and power for $9. Also comically small compared to some USB DACs. Good for any IEMs and quite a few headphones.
The Sound blaster X1 is another I have that's $50 on Amazon and will power the 600 ohm DT880, putting out 2.4v when it detects over 150ohm. The issue is battery drain on the phone though...
I already have DAP - a moded Hifiman 601 on 2xAD1866 and portable amp FiiO E12 DIY. I had a moded AK 120 II before. I would like to minimize my stuff but not to downgrade in the sound quality.
How about the DAC for the newest iPhones? I have a 14pro and loaded up a bunch of 24 bit content to play with VLC. Wasn't impressed.
Listening with hi-end Etymotic on the move and Sennheiser HD800 at home.
Reco for lightning dongles with decent DA chips? And/or lightning to USBC adapters?
I went through a few things, from Chord Mojo which I like the sound, but sold it due to its size. Then got I a Earman Sparrow then later upgrade to Lp W2, but the lighting cable connection can get loose easily in the pocket and that is quite annoying.
I then went for a last generation TOTL DAP Cayin N8 and notice a big jump up in audio quality and start to use its Bluetooth link with iPhone.
Now, I use Apple AirPod Pro 2 which sounds really good and easy to carry as a compromise. Or carry a DAP to use with bluetooth.
