alright, I have to say something now that the D-NE300 has been fourthed!!

I've been looking at the D-NE900, the D-NE1, and the iRiver iMP-450. from what I've heard about sound quality, I've shied away from the D-NE1 and the iRiver and am now just looking at the Sony's. I was wondering if anyone knows how the sound on the D-NE900 compares to the lower end Sonys (D-NE300, -400, -500)?

thanks

I had the D-NE500 and now own the D-NE900. Both PCDPs sound great. I've listened to a lot of ATRAC3Plus and Redbook audio music. I believe that the D-NE500 and D-NE900 sound pretty much identical to each other. I haven't heard the D-NE300, I'd expect that it sounds as good as the higher end models. The metal body of the D-NE900 (vs. the plastic shell on the lower models) and the recharging stand made the higher end PCDP the obvious choice for me. Sound quality is primary, but it isn't the only thing that I am looking for in a PCDP.

well, it looks like I'm gonna go with the D-NE500 then. it's only 90$ at the Sony outlet store near here and the cheapest I found the D-NE900 was 130$ at etronics.com. the dock, LCD remote, and metal body are really tempting, but I don't have a ton of money to spend right now, and I'm sure the D-NE500 will suit my needs fine. thanks for the input

And what about the legendary Denon DCP-150? How does it compare to the best vintage Sony Discmans (D-311,...)?

Oh, Mclaren said that the 915 is leagues above the 01 when he had them both, I forgot exactly how he described it as it was a while ago.

so what do you use now??

It doesn't, the DCP-150 stands head and shoulders above the best vintage Sony Discmans (D-311, D-303, D-E905, etc...) in detail and accuracy.
