I recently started searching for the best portable amp to pair with my sennheiser 598's and my iphone 5. Since i dont use my computer for music i do not know know if i need a dac/amp. I have been told to look at the fiio e18 and the jds labs c5 or c5d but jds labs said i would not need the c5d for my needs.. do not know which one is better or if there is an even better one i can get with my 300 dollar budget. i only listen to 320 kbps songs in case you were curious. i need something for better detail on lows, more bass, and better soundstage. any advice helps.

For the HD598 get something like the Fiio E17 and invest the remaining money on another set of headphones

I have the E17 and paired with my GS3 via audio out (not USB OTG) didn't make much difference other than it can go louder. On the other hand, paired with my cheap laptop via USB, it did make a difference. Probably it's better to get a DAP like Sansa player. It's only $35 now on Amazon. I just ordered them.

If you ever consider a DAP, the Fiio X3. Otherwise the E7 or E17 are fine.

Update: I got the Sansa Clip Zip, it's just o.k. Sounds a bit flat. I still prefer my laptop paired with E17.
