For around $100 USD? I would say the Fiio E07K Amp/DAC combo. Versatile and upgradable with the E09K if you so choose! You should find plenty of support and praise for it on here!

^ Thanks - ill give it a suss. I had HD-25-IIs also and never had a problem really with the audio direct from the iPod, just dont want to underutilise or not be exposed to 'a new level' of audio listening that my ears havent experienced haha

Just bought some DT1350's and wondering whether i need an amp also? This amp sounds good, but is it a necessary purchase?

Source is 80g iPod, older generation.
I too have the DT1350 and an iPod, and I can tell you the iPod amp has a definite veil over the music. Its sounds muffled, and totally lacking micro-detail. Going with an external amp and hooking it up via LOD cable will make an immediate noticeable upgrade with your cans.

If you want to stay low with the budget you could make yourself a cmoy. It will cost you less than 20$...a tutorial can be found here http://tangentsoft.net/audio/cmoy-tutorial/.
or you could use the JDS Labs cMoyBB v2.03 board to make a bass boost cmoy. It will cost few dollars more, but probably have better sound, is more compact and easy to assembly. For more info take a look to http://www.jdslabs.com/diy.php

i was looking into the Fiio E07K Amp/DAC combo and i was just wondering if music could be played via the micro usb on my htc one x. I heard it bypasses the amp/dac on the mobileto make the music sound better, would that be worth it?
