There have been a lot of additions and changes to the field of planar headphones in recent months and I was wondering what would currently be the best bang for the buck so to speak in this day and age. I still see the occasional HE500 review and that is still getting rave reviews even now. At the current low available price I am thinking this may still be the one, but open to other thoughts on the subject. I have a Lyr amplifier so power isn't really an issue.

The Oppo PM-3 might be the absolute best value right now.

But I agree, the HE500 still seems like a champion in its field.

I got my LCD-2.2 Fazor for $650. I feel I won big.

While in audio like most things you get into the law of diminishing returns as you continue to spend more both questions you ask are inherently subjective. So this really becomes impossible to answer.

If a price point is set at least some of the technicalities of the cans at that price can begin to be disused.

But remember a dollar to me is not a dollar to you and there are people that can buy an abyss just as easily as someone else can buy a 558
