I've been looking to a attenuator / switch XLR (between pre-amp and speakers). Yet it is harder to find than expected.
The Schiit Mjolnir 2 doesn't mute his preamp output when connected headphones. Also when you turn on/of the Mjolnir 2 it could send some current to speakers and could even backfire.
It is rather important to have the volume-control on zero when turning of/on the amplifier.
The device needs to run passive and has a XLR input + output, a mute button would be lovely to!

Alright a few choices:

Goldpoint sa1x ( anyone experience with that one?)
TC Electronic Level Pilot. Seems cheap?
Emotiva Control Freak. Seems cheap? ( Out of stock everywhere)
SPL 2 Control ( not sure if this functions passive. On the headphone ones it seems to have a amplification)
Nowsonic Switcher ( I did read it functions really bad. A lot of interferance )

Someone know other products? Any idea's?

Budget is about 500 euro's.

http://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/drawmer-mc21 interesting as well. Has a mute button too.

This one is a no-go.

Response :

The inputs of the MC2.1 are only for line level, not an amplified level. The MC2.1 is also an active device so the input circuitry would be damaged by an amplified level.
