Audio Technica ATH-A900X headphones.
Sennheiser HD558 are a great for their price range.

Aren't 598 > 558?
I've also read negative feedback for the a900x on this very website.

The HD558 and HD598 use the same 50-Ohm driver.
Sennheiser puts a black rubber tape (on the inside of the HD558's cups) over around 40% of the HD558 air holes.
So in theory, removing the black rubber tape should make the HD558 sound somewhat more like the HD598s.

I prefer the sound of my A900X, over my HD558s.
The wings on the A900X are a little weak, so the A900X sometimes slides down and rests on the top of your ears.
But if you hold down the wings (towards the cups) for long periods of time (over night or two), the wings function better.

Why would they do that lol...

What if I buy something like the fiio e11, should I still get the a900x? Id prefer something with clear mids/highs, but still be able to enjoy the bass in a song like, 'In the hall of the mountain king' without being overwhelmed by it. Forgot to mention that I prefer open/semi-open headphones.

I own the HD598's and have had a short listen to the M50x. From what I gather, the HD598's sound warmer and a little bit more mid centric compared to the M50x. Bass on both IMO, are slightly too laid back for trance music, but that can be solved with EQing. Bass on the M50x sounds tighter and extends slightly lower. The highs are also a bit more pronounced on the M50x, but I wouldn't consider either of them to be harsh or siblant. The HD598's definitely have more detail though, and the sound stage is much wider than the closed design of the M50x. For what you're listening to, I would suggest the HD598's if you don't need the sound isolation of the closed M50x.

I couldn't say how the other ones you listed compare though unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply. Do you recommend any other that wasn't listed?

I'm sure to get flamed, but the Beats Studio 2.0 aren't bad at all and if you can find them on sale for $200 they are a good buy.

Other than that the AD900, HM5 and used HD600 are a few others that come to mind. The HD600 will not be performing to its abilities unamped, but they still sound very good and you can keep them as you upgrade the rest of your system later on.

Hd600 look pretty hnnng. Is it worth $350 as a upgrade from a superlux 681 evo?
